Wayan Suena Consistently Promotes Indonesian Culture 2010-07-02 [L’ultimo Paradiso]
As we know each other closer, we'll know just how professional he is in the working world. His professionalism is clearly reflected by his success that now holds the position as Director of Sales & Marketing of Bali Impressions Tour & Travel Agent, marketing consultant of Mara River Safari Lodges, and also manages the two properties he owned, Legian Guest House and Bali Hai Dream Villa. However, his success in the world of tourism in Bali does not make Wayan Suena becoming delirious. He remains the figure of a very low profile man.
His basic education of tourism business and management also lead him into a position of Executive Assistant Manager of Dreamland Villa until the year 2009. His decision to move from hotel management to tour & travel agents is not without reason. "I just want to find something new," he said when met at the Office Impressions Bali in Sanur area.
| Wayan Suena who is nearly three years in Bali Impressions has created a lot of innovations for Bali tourism. Especially since the recent economic crisis, Japan which has been the primary market for them are now starting to go down. He also applies a strategy to settle into the Canadian market. One of his effort was successfully took 13 tour agents from Canada to Bali with the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ottawa, Canada. It is recognized as a form of Embassy’s trust to Wayan and Bali Impressions to participate in promoting Visit Indonesia Year 2010.
Wayan also added that the current market demand in Canada is quite high, around 60%, while the rest come from America, France, and Egypt. Bali Impressions itself not only a tour & travel service for Bali, but also Java, Lombok, Komodo Island, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Papua. Wayan said that he is consistent with the idealism to promote the culture of Indonesia in the eyes of the foreign tourists. "We're not a big agency, but we always maintain our quality. Our customer is minimum three-star class, "said Wayan.
| By selling Indonesian culture, the competition they face is not too tight, because not too many agents who concentrate solely to sell culture to tourists. "There are so many agents with lack of consistency. Bali Impressions, from the beginning is always consistent. We want to sell something that the result could also be felt by local people, "said Wayan. The overland tour packages for example, with tourist destinations from Jakarta - Jogja - Bromo - Bali, tourists can interact with the local people, and truly feel that they are in Indonesia.
Wayan Suena also becomes a marketing consultant in the Mara River Safari Lodge. For this one, Wayan said he didn’t encounter too many difficulties, because this unique place that carries the slogan "From the Heart of the Wild Africa to the Paradise of Bali" is the only Safari park in Asia which has African nuance. While two of his own properties Legian Guest House and Bali Hai Dream Villa is also well-managed until now. "These two properties actually have two very contradictory concepts. One was a low budget accommodation hotel, while the other is private villas, "he said. But with his experience while was working in the five-star hotel, Wayan also continues to apply high standards for services provided in Legian Guest House and Bali Hai Dream Villa.
| Observing the tourism in Bali this year, Wayan said that tourists’ responses were very good. This is also greatly assisted by the International flights provided by Garuda Indonesia, and the security system in Indonesia that has been getting better from year to year. But he added that, until today for the destination of Bali, the market for tourists from Europe is still the biggest.
Wayan also states, he is optimistic for the year 2011 the development of tourism in Indonesia will be getting better again. "For Bali, there will be variations of new products in an effort to increase the number of tourists coming to Bali. However, guests who come to Bali later will want to visit other places in Indonesia to know more about the Indonesian archipelago. Tourism will also be started to move to 'destination culture'. An increase of 10-15% in the year 2011 would be very good, "he said.
